Position Summary

The Director, Public Relations reports to the Chief Marketing Officer and is responsible for shaping and executing the organization’s PR and communications strategy to build a strong, consistent brand presence. This role leads external and internal communications, oversees media relations, manages crisis communications, and ensures alignment with the company’s mission, values, and business objectives. The Director of PR partners closely with executive leadership, marketing, and HR to drive storytelling that strengthens the company’s reputation and market influence. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead integrated PR and communications strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Serve as spokesperson and prepare executives for media and speaking engagements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media, proactively securing impactful coverage.
  • Oversee crisis communications, ensuring timely and effective responses to reputational issues.
  • Direct the creation of press releases, speeches, op-eds, and thought leadership content.
  • Ensure communications align with brand voice, style, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, executives, and external partners to maximize reach and consistency.
  • Track, measure, and report on PR campaign performance to drive continuous improvement.

  • Media Relations & Influencer Engagement – Proven skills in cultivating strong press relationships, proactively pitching stories, and securing high-value coverage in national, trade and local outlets.
  • Crisis & Issue Management- developing communication plans for PR crisis and serving as a trusted advisor.
  • Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration – Strong ability to partner with executives, physicians, marketing, HR, external agencies while influencing senior leaders and aligning PR with broader business objectives.
  • Analytical and Results Driven Mindset – Competence in setting KPIs, monitoring media coverage, analyzing outcomes and continuously refining strategies to maximize ROI and impact.
  • Proven success driving media coverage and reputation programs in a regulated or clinical environment.
  • Experience managing agencies and budgets.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with complex stakeholder dynamics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Ten (10) years of professional experience.
  • Eight (8) years of progressive PR and communications experience, including leadership roles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience leading through crisis communication.
  • Experience working within the healthcare industry.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across appropriate US geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and education/training and a candidate's work experience.
